The Rio Grande Valley Detachment wasted no time getting involved with the community within its first year of existence. With the leadership of Committee Chair Yolanda Garcia and the tireless devotion of other members, the detachment collected hundreds of toys for local children. Working closely with the Marines of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marines, the detachment spread its net across the Rio Grande Valley to ensure a successful campaign.
Volunteers included: Yolanda Garcia, James Coan, Gregorio Kishketon, Laura Marquez, Sean Downey and other members of the community.
